Are you a SPAMMER and don’t know it?

Published by Chuck Franks on April 11th, 2009

Everyone needs to understand the law about sending out unsolicited e-mails. Both from a consumer standpoint but also and more importantly a business standpoint. Because if your using e-mail as part of your marketing you need to realized you have a liability issue if your not doing it correctly.Spammer LawDo you follow all the rules to keep you safe from a lawsuit? Just because no one has complained so far doesn’t mean you can’t make sure your doing it correctly to 1) avoid legal issues 2) build stronger relationships with those clients that you truly want to attract. Respect: How do you earn it?  Do you earn it by being the loudest person in the room always talking about yourself?  Or do you earn it by slowly but professionally crafting your message to be of importance and value to the listener. I learned from one of my clients that Quakers have what they call a wisdom or prayer circle, where you only speak when what you have to say will add to the conversation.  Not just to hear yourself talk. There is a lot of silence between spoken words but when the words are spoken everyone listens. I wonder what it would be like to see quakers on twitter. Might be a very slow tweet stream.Bottom line is be careful, thoughtful, and purposeful as you utilize social media to market and network.

7 Crucial Questions every Business Owner should be asking themselves in today’s economic world.

Published by Chuck Franks on April 6th, 2009

As a business owner it is of the utmost importance to me that my customers/clients are satisfied with the service or product that I provide.  With that priority and value in mind I have to realize that gathering information and feedback from them is crucial for my own knowledge if I am to adjust or maintain what I am doing to meet their expectations. Don’t underestimate your customers expectations.  They are a crucial component to your success.

The internet has many tools and methods for customers to give feedback to or about business’s. The business owners who are aware of those methods and utilize them are the ones who will be the leaders of their industries.   Facebook recently made some decisions that affected their clients and they are now listening and responding to those clients to manage the situation.  http://Facebook Caves to User Gripes Over Redesign

Personally I would rename the article;

“Social Media Leader uses Social Media to Maintain Leadership Position.”

The coach in me is thinking where is the learning experience in all of this. How do you as a small business owner or just an individual utilize social media to pace yourself or listen to feedback?

Here are some questions you should ask.

1) What sites are my customers using?  (Facebook, Myspace, other User Review and Recommendation sites)

2)How can you use the sites your customers are using to track what is being said about your company?

3) How do you allow customers to give feedback to you as a business owner so you can respond quickly to a complaint?

4) How do you handle both negative and positive feedback from your customers?

5) What do you do with the information once you have it?

6) What are you doing to move customers from first time buyers into being dedicated loyal customers?

7) How do you engage your customers?

Using Social Media to help people find jobs.

Published by Chuck Franks on April 5th, 2009

Recently on Twitter you can follow me (@CoachChuck) I connected a client with someone who has some contract work.I also posted on my Facebook Page  find me at  Chuck Franks about some IT work that I found out about and now will be following up with some people about it both including current clients but also friends of friends.  Using the power of your network for good is really what social media is about. It’s not about self promoting. You’ll find those that only post about and link to articles that they themselves wrote no longer get followed by others. Social Media is about the power of sharing information.  So think about how you can contribute to help others if you want to be seen as a leader.Chuck Franks, PCCBusiness, Life and Relationship Coach

Commitments

Published by Chuck Franks on November 19th, 2008

Commitments are things we make with very good intentions of following through.  However life seems to get in the way.  We get distracted.  Already today I woke up and

1) There was a leak from the humidifier coming through the ceiling
2) Batteries were low in the thermostat which turns off the furnace where my office is……burrrrrrrr.
3) The batteries were low in my wireless mouse
4) My printer isn’t hooked up correctly after returning from my trip, my wireless network
5) During a meeting with a new client I came over to type in our next appointment and my laptop keyboard wouldn’t respond.
6) My Dad driving through town wanted to stop and have lunch after deer hunting season, he can’t get his motion detection camera to work and I’ve lost the manual
7) One of my clients has lost my phone number and e-mailed me at the last minute to say yes he would be here but hadn’t returned my call
8) etc. etc. etc.
And it’s only 1pm.
So how do we stay focused on what is important and keep the commitments we have made to ourselves, our clients, our loved ones.
Setting priorities is one way to stay focused. Seeing the value in prioritizing different things allows us to sift through the daily grind and actually get deadlines for ourselves.
One commitment I’ve made is to start blogging again. If you were to read my blog you’d know this isn’t the first time I’ve made this commitment. What gets in my way?  How can I come up with an action plan to make sure I stick with blogging as a way of marketing.  One way is, I intend to change my thoughts about blogging. It isn’t something I’ll do when I get around to it. It is part of my marketing plan.  So if I’m not marketing how do I expect people to find me and decide to work with me.  So I will commit again.

Website Search Engine Optimization

Published by Chuck Franks on July 18th, 2008

I currently am reading a very well laid out book about search engine optimization. And apparently some of the changes I’m making are having an impact. I was contacted by a potential client earlier in the week and we met today to finalize the process and sign him up.

The book if anyone is interested is Search Engine Optimization: Your visual blueprint for effective Internet marketing

by Kristopher B. Jones President and CEO of PepperJam

I highly recommend it. Feel free to ask any questions you might have about search engine optimization for your website.
