I believe the biggest mistake people make is to focus on what is wrong or what they don’t want rather than what is right and that they do want.
Of course you have to be clear about where your at, but the focus then needs to shift to what is it you want to improve. Ultimately looking at and defining, What does improvement look like?
What does that look like? It will be different for each person depending on the area your wanting to focus on. But clarifying your vision of what you want from life is the best step you can take. From there you can decide if you are ready to take on the challenge to strive for and achieve that vision. Every step of the way you have the choice to stop and settle or to keep going putting one foot in front of the other as you move ever closer to your dream.
